Can LASIK and LASEK Be Retreated?

Image
Can LASIK and LASEK Be Retreated? After vision correction surgery, it would be ideal if the corrected vision stayed the same, but sometimes it decreases over time. This is called regression. It rarely occurs 10–20 years after surgery, but more commonly within 1–2 years post-surgery. When Does Regression Occur Easily? One condition that increases the likelihood of regression is having a large correction amount. Patients with high myopia or high astigmatism have a slightly higher chance of experiencing regression. Another factor is neglecting the use of eye drops that stabilize the cornea after surgery. If regression occurs after LASEK, retreatment is done with LASEK again. There are two ways to retreat after LASIK. One option is performing another LASIK procedure by lifting the same corneal flap created during the first surgery. However, if too much time has passed since the first surgery, or if the quality of the flap makes lifting it unsuitable, retreatment is done with LASEK instead....

Post-Operative Care Process for International Patients after SMILE LASIK

Image
Post-Operative Care Process for International Patients after SMILE LASIK The day after SMILE surgery, a check-up is required just like with LASIK. In SMILE, the laser enters the cornea and performs the procedure in the mid-corneal layer. Because it is less affected by external exposure, there is less irritation to the corneal surface. For this reason, patients can safely take flight the a day after surgery, and sunglasses are not required, as UV exposure does not affect recovery. Follow-up Care After SMILE LASIK After SMILE surgery, a check-up is recommended one week later, and then once a month thereafter. During follow-up visits, the corneal condition and intraocular pressure are examined to monitor healing progress. In addition, SMILE LASIK typically requires less than a month of eye-drop usage, and does not require frequent check-ups.

Recommended Cases for Anterior vs. Posterior ICL

Image
Which cases are recommended for anterior lenses vs. posterior lenses? In fact, anterior ICL and posterior ICL provide almost the same vision-correction effect, but posterior ICL are more commonly used. What are anterior and posterior lenses? An anterior lens refers to placing the lens on top of the iris. In contrast, there is a structure called the ciliary body behind the iris, and between the ciliary body and the iris is an area called the ciliary sulcus. Inserting a lens into that space is called posterior chamber IOL implantation. Characteristics of Posterior ICL Each person has a different eye size. There is a space inside the eye, and if the lens fits perfectly into that space, it stays fixed without moving. If the eye is small but the lens is large, it will fit too tightly, and if the eye is large but the lens is small, it won’t stay fixed and will irritate the natural lens. Therefore, for posterior ICL, the eye size, eye structure, and lens size have to measured properly in orde...

Is Presbyopia Cataract Surgery Possible for Those Who Had LASIK or LASEK in Their 20s?

Image
Is Presbyopia Cataract Surgery Possible for Those Who Had LASIK or LASEK in Their 20s? Yes, people who have undergone LASIK or LASEK can still receive presbyopia cataract surgery. In the past, it was difficult to accurately measure the corneal power because the shape of the cornea changed after LASIK or LASEK. As a result, the lens power used during cataract surgery was sometimes inaccurate. However, with today’s advanced diagnostic technology, it is now possible to perform cataract surgery with precise lens calculations even for patients who previously had LASIK or LASEK. Is the Satisfaction Rate Lower for Presbyopia Cataract Surgery in Patients Who Have Had LASIK or LASEK? After undergoing LASIK or LASEK, patients typically experience a significant improvement in their distance vision. When cataract surgery is later performed, many patients notice that their near vision improves, but their distance vision may feel slightly reduced compared to before. This perception occurs because th...
